Only a few people admit to doing the act but despite conservative views that masturbation is in fact, taboo, experts say that masturbation is beneficial to a person's mental, social and physical health. What is masturbation actually? It is simply defined as touching one's own sex organs for pleasure. Masturbation is said to help reduce stress, it induces sleep, and can help people to become more familiar and comfortable with their body.

According to studies, there are a lot of perks to masturbation. For women who have their period, it can help ease cramps and those who do not have their periods yet, can alleviate their premenstrual tension. It can also provide a sexual outlet for people who choose not to have sex with a partner. Masturbation can be a route to safer sex which can help prevent pregnancy and at the same time the risk of sexually transmitted diseases like HIV. It also increases the blood flow to the genital area which helps in its overall function. Lastly, it helps men increase their control over their ejaculatory functions and be able to manage rapid or delayed ejaculation. What more can one ask for?

Unfortunately, there have also been masturbation myths that have been debunked in the past. Contrary to popular belief that masturbation can lead to insanity or hair growing on palms, all of these beliefs are considered false. Masturbation also does not drain the excessive energy from one's body and for males, you will never run out of semen or sperm if you masturbate excessively. Masturbation will not ruin your chances of having a sexual partner. It will only prepare you for it.

Despite the fact that masturbation is beneficial, it can also be bad for you at times. But unless you use something unsanitary in the process of masturbation then you can't get an infection or any kind of disease from it. Masturbation is important however, whether it is healthy or not, can vary depending on who you ask. For women, using their fingers or a vibrator are the two most common tools for masturbation. The frequency of it varies and some who are in commitments or who have serious relationships, feel guilty about the act after wards however, there is no need for it. Although using one's fingers is more advisable because too much using of vibrators, according to study, have had side effects on some women such as genital numbness or even pain. Experts have also warned those who like using vibrators too much that it somehow impairs the nervous system that causes simulation as you already get too dependent on the vibrator to duplicate the same reaction. Although natural masturbation for females is said to be okay for females, let's now talk about the men.

Men often wonder if there is something abnormal about masturbation. If they are doing it too much or if they aren't. Most men use their hands to masturbate but they also use other things that can aid them from self pleasuring and self releasing. Although masturbation is said to be safe, it isn't 100 percent safe for men who indulge themselves to frequent masturbation. It is said that frequent or overly vigorous masturbation can actually irritate the skin of your penis. Aside from that frequent thrusting against anything while in the act of masturbating can injure your urethra in such a way that urine becomes difficult to control. There is also such a thing as penile fracture. Ever heard of that? Well, it is a very rare case but it does happen to some overly zealous masturbation fans. This is a painful condition because it actually tears up the tissue surrounding the penis' spongy layers. This only occurs when an erect penis strikes a hard object or is forced downward. It is a medical emergency and often times, the victim requires surgery. Too much masturbation for men can actually cause them to have premature ejaculation whether with a sexual partner or not which can be a let down for their partners in the process.

Although it is difficult to say right now whether masturbation is in fact healthy or not, I can say that everything should be in moderation. Too much of something can be bad for some, if not most of us. Whether masturbation is healthy or not, I can say that it is normal. So if you are into it and is shy to admit that you do it, then do not worry for you are not alone, my friend.
